Vitamin C in Skincare
Vitamin C is an important part of our diet and is required by our body for various functions. Vitamin C is naturally occurring in the skin and considered to be essential to skin health. Deficiency of Vitamin C causes skin issues, especially as we age. Realizing this, vitamin C skincare is widely used in all parts of the world. On the whole, it is a great anti-oxidant that slows the aging process. When the skin's supply of vitamin C is depleted--through sun exposure, smoking, or pollution--the skin's ability to repair free radical damage is compromised. The end result for your face is sun damage, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. The human body does not produce Vitamin C so it needs to be taken in with our food, as a dietary supplements or applied topically for skin. Vitamin C in the form of L-ascorbic acid, ascorbal palmitate, Mag C and some other forms of vitamin C are useful to the skin and once absorbed, stays in the skin for up to 72 hours, and prevents sun damage, which causes skin cancer. Ascorbic acid cannot be washed, rubbed, or perspired from the skin. In a double-blind study, participants had topical vitamin C applied to half of the face and a placebo to the other side. The results showed a significant improvement of the vitamin C-treated side. Once inside the skin, vitamin C neutralizes free radicals which would otherwise be stimulated by UV/ sun light. Results showed increased collagen formation and visible improvement in wrinkled, sun damaged skin. Please see our Vitamin C products like SkinCeuticals Serum 15 or CE Ferulic Benefits of Applying Topical Vitamin C:
