Self Tanning
If you want to achieve that bronzed look safely and incur no sun damage from tanning beds or prolonged exposure to the sun, self-tanners are the only way to go! Self tanners have come a long way since the 60's and are no longer smelly and create orange stains. The active ingredient in all self-tanners is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). A chemical reaction starts between the self-tanner and the dead cells on the top layer of the skin as soon as the product is applied. The cells turn brown creating the look of a tan instantly or gradually depending on the self tanning formula used. The FDA considers DHA safe as a self-tanning ingredient and it is not absorbed through the skin.
Self-tanners are a stain and last about three to four days. As they naturally exfoliate, the tan fades so plan on reapplying every few days to maintain your "tan".
